Weekend Fun

Happy early birthday to me!!!
Tage completely surprised me with a new sewing machine for my birthday. I am so, SO excited! This thing does more stuff than I even knew a sewing machine can do.

Friday night I had dinner with friends.
Me, Lindsey, Heidi, L. Shanna, Veronica and Laura

Heidi gave me an early birthday present too! This cookbook...

These muffins are amazing. They turned out light and fluffy on the inside and slightly crunchy on the outside. Thank you, Heidi!

Tage and I had a date night on Saturday night and attended his friend Davey's wedding. (Thank you for watching Mason, Grandma Dee and Grandpa Jack!)

Mase enjoyed the warm Spring weather...

He was pretty proud of himself (notice the clapping) when he figured out how to turn the sprinkler on and off.

We hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and enjoyed time with your loved ones. Have a great week! (Roseanne and Kim, please move closer-- I miss you already.)

Crate & Barrel-Inspired DIY Wall Art

Mason's room has been rearranged a few times since his nursery was completed and lately it has felt a bit... disjointed. It was time to get things coordinated once again. Blame it on my OCD. Or my affinity for symmetry. Or having a full day off work.

I'll share some pictures when I have all of the details finished, but here is a little art project I finished this week:

The inspiration? This set of wall tiles I found at Crate & Barrel. It was another case of, "I bet I could make that."

I had some canvases left over from my fabric sign obsession and paint from the trim in Mason's room. First I painted the front and sides of four canvases.

Next, I chose the images I wanted to use for each canvas and traced them onto wax paper. You basically create a reverse stencil by applying overlapping strips of painters tape and then cutting out the design. Just peel off the wax paper and there you have your "stencil".

Stick the tape right on the canvas and paint over it. Let the paint dry and peel off the tape. That's it!

Easy wall art to match Mase's circles and primary colors bedroom. Updated pictures of the rest coming soon.

Call me cheap

...but I could not bring myself to pay $17 last week to get Mason's hair cut. I rationalized that for $17 I could buy a pair of scissors and do it myself. How hard could it be, right?

Haha! Lets just say it is harder than it seems. In my defense though, A) I didn't actually buy new scissors, I used old ones from the junk drawer, and B) I did it during bath time, while he was squirming around (not sitting in the Bumbo like he should have been.)

Although, at the end of the day, when all is said and combed...

He is still pretty cute to me.
Crooked hair or not.

Parenting Lessons Learned the Hard Way #2

Do not feed your toddler anything you would not want to end up on your pants immediately before you leave for work.

Happy Friday! Have a great weekend. :)

Khakis turned...

40's inspired sun cap (tutorial found here)

And playtime-friendly snack bags (tutorial found here)

Tage had a pair of pants with a hole in them and you can imagine how excited I was to be able to use them for some kind of project. I actually made that sun cap twice (it was too small for Mase's big ol' head the first time) and made two of these nifty snack pouches and I have a bunch of fabric left over. If I made the pouches again I would sew the velcro onto the inner fabric before putting all of the pieces together (the tutorial has you attach the velco at the very end). We'll use them all the time-- I used ripstop for the inner pouch so they are washable-- and they fit a whole sandwich with room to spare.
In case you were wondering, you can even stick a treat into the outer pocket. That might be my favorite part!

Weekend project anyone?

Weekend Fun

You'd think all I did this weekend was bake...
And Tage's favorite Sweet Potato Blueberry Bread by Bonnie the Baker

Add to that 11 hours worked between two jobs, church, the farmers market and a bike ride-- and there you have our weekend fun!

Oh, and I almost forgot, we watched Lance Armstrong and the Amgen Tour of California ride by our street on Sunday. So cool!

Sunny San Diego

I wish I could regularly fly down to So Cal and just spend the day walking on the beach and shopping in the awesome antique shops they have there. I'll settle for special occasions though!

Me, Julie, Amanda, Heather and Mel

There are lots of gorgeous photos from Heather's insanely beautiful baby shower (taken by Mel) HERE.

The best part? Getting to spend the afternoon with some truly phenomenal women talking marriage, babies, home decor, parties and just life in general. Let me tell you, life is good.

Parenting Lessons Learned the Hard Way #1

Do not keep phone numbers stored in your cell phone that you would not want your toddler dialing at 6AM on a Saturday morning.

Weekend Fun: Mother's Day

Mason made his first Sunday school project: a Mother's Day card

There were definitely tears in my eyes when his Sunday school teacher handed it to me!

Saturday I actually spent in San Diego but have no pictures yet (there were some super star photographers there so I just plan on snagging pictures from them when they post them.) Tage and Mason had a father/son day (thanks honey!)

Sunday we had my mom and brothers over for brunch then relaxed for the rest of the day.
I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!

Weekend Fun

These are actually photos from two weekends ago, but I got them from my friend Veronica this morning.

Our two little chefs in training.

In case you were wondering, her little guy on the right is wearing his shirt around his neck like a cape. How much do you love 2 year-olds?! :)
