Change is...

I am pretty good with change, especially when it is a change for the better. My Facebook status has been officially "single" for a while now but the actual being single part happened before that. It felt like long before that. Tage and I were not married and after splitting up and him moving out, life feels pretty much exactly like it did when we were together-- at least as far as he and I are concerned. Mason took about 3 days to adjust to "Daddy house" and "Mommy house" and seems to be doing just fine too.

Did I ever imagine I'd be doing the single mom thing? Um, no. Does it suck to have to think about the logistics of seperate holidays and shared weekends? Definitey. Do I want what's best for my son? Absolutely. Which is why I know this was the right decision. I want Mason to grow up with parents who are happy and love each other, who model a friendship and mutual respect and who enjoy being around each other. I want him to grow up in a household knowing what a healthy relationship and a strong marriage looks like and I want him to have parents who can openly pray with him and demonstrate and teach him about God's love and forgiveness.

That being said, the past several weeks have been all about getting organized, focusing all my time and energy on Mason when I have him, and replacing furniture in our empty little house. Not much to blog about, unless you are interested in pictures of the holes in the wall and the bare rooms we were left with. Despite the emptiness of our physical surroundings, our lives still feel very full. Mason and I are enjoying our time together and I am doing the best I can to make the most of every minute. That's the way we should all live, right?

As one of my best friends reminded me, "An empty house means more room to hit balls".

And hey, it's an excuse to start a few repurposing and refinishing projects. I'll catch up with the blogging again, thanks for everyone's support, encouragement and prayers. God is so good.

Oh baby!

Cole Robert Mattos
made his way into the world last night!
8 pounds 9 ounces at 10:11pm

Shortly after 10am yesterday I received a text that said Heather's water had broken and they were headed to the hospital. Then I got this picture from Kevin at 4:44pm:
"Epidural WOW I ALMOST PASSED OUT"

I got to talk to Heather around 9:15pm and when I asked her how she was feeling, her response was, "I'm over it". Can you blame her??? She was scheduled to start pushing at 9:45pm and an hour later I got to talk to her again and congratulate the new mother of four!

Way to go, Heather! I am so proud of you and so happy for you and Kevin. I can't wait to meet Cole on Wednesday!!!

Monterey Bay Aquarium

Last week Mase and I needed a mini-vacation, so on my day off we headed down to the Monterey Bay Aquarium!

The jellyfish and seahorses were definitely my favorites. Mase pretty much liked everything and kept saying and signing "fish" as we walked around.

You can't tell from this picture, but these are teeny, tiny jellyfish.

Mason couldn't wait to get his hands into everything. He was petting the starfish and saying "nice", like he was petting a dog or cat. It was pretty cute.

After lunch we walked to the beach and got our feet wet before the long, traffic-filled drive home.

Such a great day, and exactly what we needed!

It's been a while

Let's just say my internet is "down" at home and my laptop, well, isn't functioning properly.

I do have some great pictures from camping last weekend and I'll get those posted as soon as I can. In the meantime, if you're not already, go follow this hilarious blog written by a super talented (and beautiful) friend of mine...
